Quetta Gladiators fringe player Khawaja Mohammad Nafay, who rose to prominence against the Lahore Qalandars on Monday in the ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), was born in Karachi.
According to media reports, Nafay is one of the players who was picked up through the social media platform, Facebook.
The 22-year-old used to publish his videos on Facebook.
When former Gladiators captain Sarfaraz Ahmed was asked about the “untold story” of Nafay, Sarfaraz said: “Nafay is fond of publishing his videos on Facebook. In the last year, Nafay was picked up in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), which was the biggest achievement of the club.”
The former Pakistan captain added, “Credit goes to coach Liaquat for uplifting the career of Nafay. It was in the previous year that Nafay had played cricket from Karachi. As a result, the Gladiators had picked up Nafay for the PSL 9.”
“Everything is in front of everybody, which is how Nafay utilised the opportunity he got to play in the Gladiators. If children like Nafay get the opportunities, such children can serve the country with great vigour," said Sarfaraz Ahmed.
Nafay’s dream to play in the domestic premium tournament came true, when the Gladiators selected him in the emerging category.
The fringe player had racked up a brilliant 30-ball 61, lacing with four boundaries and three sixes to power his team to a victory against the Qalandars.
