The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has divulged the latest composition of parties in the National Assembly following the recent elections.
According to the ECP’s data, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has emerged as a dominant force, securing victory in 75 general seats. Additionally, 9 independent candidates have thrown their support behind the PML-N, bolstering its strength to a formidable 84 seats in total.
The Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) has clinched victory in 54 general seats, without any independent candidates aligning with the party.
Interestingly, a significant chunk of victorious independent candidates, totaling 99, has made their decisions known. Among them, a staggering 81 have opted to join the ranks of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), while 8 independents remain unaffiliated with any party at this point.
Other parties have also made their mark in the assembly. The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has secured victory in 17 seats, while the Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has garnered support from 6 members.
Furthermore, the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) has secured 3 seats, with an additional independent member joining its ranks, bringing their combined strength to 4 seats.
Other smaller parties and independent candidates have also secured representation in the National Assembly. Three members from the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), along with representatives from various other parties including Majlis Wahdat Muslimeen, Muslim League Zia, Pashtun Khawa Milli Awami Party, Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), Balochistan National Party (BNP), and National Party, have emerged victorious, each claiming one seat.
However, the election process for 3 seats in the National Assembly has hit a snag, experiencing delays for reasons yet to be disclosed.
