On Sunday, the PML-N leader was elected as the 24th prime minister of Pakistan, for a second time. In an election in the National Assembly, he bagged 201 votes and comfortably defeated Sunni Ittehad Council-backed PTI candidate Omar Ayub Khan, who got 92 votes.
National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq announced the official results of the poll for the prime minister's elections and declared Shehbaz Sharif as the 24th prime minister of the 16th National Assembly and the leader of the Lower House of parliament.
Previously, Shehbaz served in the position for around 16 months as part of the multi-party coalition PDM government after the ouster of Imran Khan through a no-confidence motion.
