In a significant development related to the May 9 mayhem case, sedition provisions have been added to the charges against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Supremo Imran Khan and other accused.
The move comes after investigations revealed evidence of incitement and planning of sedition during the violent protests that erupted on May 9.
The May 9 tragedy unfolded when PTI workers engaged in acts of vandalism and arson during a protest, leading to the arrest of Imran Khan and several others.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Investigation Dr Anush Masood, the addition of sedition provisions is a substantial step in the ongoing legal proceedings.
Provisions of section 120B have been imposed in all the cases, including the main case stemming from the events of May 9. The police have asserted that evidence of incitement and planning for sedition emerged during their investigation, particularly during Imran Khan's absence from the protest scene.
These sedition provisions were incorporated after the prosecution raised objections to the initial challan.
