Sunni Ittehad Council on Saturday formally requested Speaker Ayaz Sadiq to appoint Umar Ayub as the new Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly.
The SIC chief whip, Aamir Dogar, submitted the official request to the Speaker.
Among those present during the submission of application were prominent figures including Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Ali Mohammad Khan, Riyaz Fathiana, Nisar Jat, and other council members.
The role of Leader of the Opposition is given to the head of the largest party or alliance not in power. The position comes with certain privileges and powers to hold the government accountable.
