The Punjab government decided not to present the three-month budget in Friday's session. Provincial Finance Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman said the budget will be presented in the House on March 18.
On the other hand, the Punjab government tabled six ordinances in the Punjab Assembly today. The ordinances include the Punjab Civil Servants Amendment Ordinance 2023, The Police Order Amendment Ordinance 2023, The Punjab Agriculture Marketing Regulatory Authority Amendment Ordinance 2023, The Punjab Healthcare Commission Amendment Ordinance 2023, and The Punjab Price Control Ordinance.
An extension to the ordinance of the Punjab Assembly Rules 1997 was also included on the agenda.
Moreover, a resolution presented by the Sunni Ittehad Council to designate a day regarding Islamophobia, which was postponed by a majority. The resolution was moved by opposition member Waqas Mann.
The resolution also paid tribute to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan and the United Nations.
Earlier, it had been reported that the Punjab governor had called an urgent session of the Punjab Assembly today to approve a three-month budget for the province as well as expenses for the nine months of the ongoing fiscal year.
The fourth session of the assembly was scheduled for 11am to be presided over by Speaker Malik Ahmed Khan. Reports indicated that meticulous preparations were made, with the Punjab government crafting budget proposals poised to address the multifaceted needs of the province.
It was anticipated that a substantial allocation of Rs280 billion was earmarked across 42 sectors, signifying a strategic approach to resource allocation aimed at bolstering various facets of Punjab's socio-economic landscape.
The proposed budget allocations span a diverse array of sectors, encompassing crucial areas such as infrastructure development, healthcare, education, agriculture, and public welfare initiatives. This comprehensive approach underscores the government's commitment to fostering holistic progress and addressing the needs of all segments of society.
