Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has found himself in the midst of controversy yet again.
Following his announcement of returning from Test retirement, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended him from the upcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh due to an incident of dissent.
The ICC took action after Hasaranga was found guilty of displaying dissent at an umpire's decision during the third one-day international against Bangladesh.
In a pivotal moment during the 37th over of the match, which Bangladesh ultimately clinched by four wickets to win the series 2-1, Hasaranga's actions of snatching his cap from an umpire and openly ridiculing the decision led to his suspension.
As per the ICC statement, Hasaranga incurred a 50 percent match fine and accrued three demerit points, pushing his total demerit points to eight within a 24-month period, warranting the suspension.
This isn't the first time Hasaranga has faced disciplinary action recently. Just a month ago, he was suspended for two Twenty20 internationals for a similar offense during a match against Afghanistan.
In a parallel incident, Sri Lanka's ODI skipper, Kusal Mendis, also received a 50 percent fine for abusing the umpires while shaking hands with them at the conclusion of the third match.
Despite his suspension, Sri Lanka had initially included Hasaranga in their 17-man squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The first test is scheduled to commence on March 22 in Sylhet, with the second test to follow on March 30 in Chittagong.
