Former prime minister and political maverick Shahid Khaqan Abbasi remarked on Sunday that he hadn't witnessed any breach of the constitution by former Army Chief General (R) Qamar Javed Bajwa and former Director General (DG) Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt. General (R) Faiz Hameed.
However, he emphasised that if any wrongdoing occurred, it should be duly addressed and brought to light.
Abbasi's statements came during an interview with Samaa TV's programme "Do Tok with Kiran Naz" where he addressed various pressing issues concerning the nation, spanning from governance to international relations.
Regarding the composition of the federal cabinet, Abbasi slated the critique surrounding Muhammad Aurangzeb's appointment as Finance Minister, highlighting the importance of competence over mere party affiliation.
Advocating for accountability, Abbasi called for the establishment of a truth commission to unveil facts transparently. He stressed the need for accountability measures that adhere strictly to the rule of law, citing a past corruption case where accountability procedures seemed to falter.
Expressing his views on the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Mr Khaqan suggested its closure, advocating for a system where financial transparency is maintained through meticulous tax record-keeping.
Abbasi also underscored the significance of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), urging for its chairmanship by the Prime Minister to ensure efficient decision-making in economic matters.
On the subject of trade relations with India, Shahid Khaqan proposed revisiting the dialogue process and giving the opposition a platform for discussion.
Furthermore, he emphasised the importance of fostering stronger ties with Afghanistan, recognizing the need for constructive dialogue between the two neighboring countries.
Highlighting the sacrifices made by Pakistani soldiers on the western border, the former premier called for a diplomatic approach towards Afghanistan, emphasising the importance of recognizing Afghanistan's sovereignty.
Meanwhile, Abbasi mentioned the potential role of Nawaz Sharif in national or provincial politics, given his party's current position of power.
