In a startling revelation, QESCO (Quetta Electric Supply Company) has disclosed a list of prominent figures who have failed to pay their electricity bills.
The list includes former MNAs (Members of the National Assembly), Senators, and transporters, shedding light on their unpaid dues.
According to a QESCO spokesperson, the top defaulter on the list is former Federal Minister Mir Hamayoun Aziz Kurd, owing a staggering amount of around Rs4.95 million.
Former Provincial Minister Asim Kurd follows with Rs2.06 million in unpaid bills, while former Interior Minister Mir Zia Ullah Langau's dues stand at Rs1.57 million.
Other notable names on the list include former Provincial Minister Zafar Zehri with Rs.1.16 million, former MNA Abdul Qahar Uddin at Rs916253, and former Provincial Minister Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran with Rs468770 in outstanding bills.
The list also reveals that prominent transporter Feroz Lehri owes QESCO Rs493310, Senator Naseeb Ullah Bazai has Rs447810 in unpaid bills.
Former MPA Haji Ahmed Nawazs dues amount to Rs179009, and tribal leader Wadera Sheeren Marri has an unsettled bill of Rs86953.
KESCO has taken stringent actions against electricity theft across Balochistan, including Quetta.
As per the spokesperson, a total of 322 cases have been registered against electricity thieves, resulting in the arrest of 122 individuals.
Quetta leads with 64 cases, followed by Loralai with 75, Khuzdar with 65, Sibi with 88, and Pishin with 25 cases. Additionally, 5 cases have been filed in Makran.
The crackdown on electricity theft has led to approximately Rs75 million in fines collected from the culprits, with Rs42.6 million already recovered.
In response to non-payment in Balochistan, 15 transformers have been confiscated, and 6 illegal transformers have been seized.
Furthermore, 435 defaulters in Quetta, Loralai, Khuzdar, Pishin, Sibi, and Makran have had their connections disconnected due to outstanding bills.
