The federal cabinet has given its nod to include the names of 24 individuals in the Exit Control List (ECL), as per a summary circulated through the cabinet by the Interior Ministry.
Among the notable names approved for inclusion in the ECL are journalists Sami Ibrahim and Imran Riaz Khan. Both individuals have been recommended for inclusion in the ECL due to ongoing inquiries against them.
In a significant move, the cabinet also approved the withdrawal of names of 22 individuals, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Babar Awan, from the ECL.
Babar Awan's name was initially placed on the ECL back in December 2023 in connection with the 190 million pounds case.
The federal cabinet gave its approval to update the list in light of the recommendations of the sub-committee on ECL.
The decision comes amidst ongoing efforts to regulate the ECL and ensure that it is effectively utilized to address legal matters and prevent individuals under investigation from leaving the country. The inclusion and withdrawal of names from the ECL reflect the government's commitment to upholding the rule of law and facilitating due process in legal proceedings.
