Opting to field first after winning the toss, the Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals appeared to be in control for much of the game, stifling Rajasthan's batting lineup early on. Despite losing key wickets, including explosive openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler, and skipper Sanju Samson, Rajasthan found a saviour in Parag.
At a precarious 36-3 in the eighth over, Rajasthan injected momentum by promoting Ravichandran Ashwin, who combined with Parag for a vital 54-run partnership. Ashwin contributed a brisk 29 off 19 balls before falling to Axar Patel in the 14th over.
Parag, often criticised for his shot selection in previous seasons, showcased maturity and composure as he anchored the innings. He forged another crucial partnership with Dhruv Jurel, guiding Rajasthan to a competitive total. Parag's fifty came off 34 balls, and he concluded the innings with a flurry of boundaries off Anrich Nortje, aided by Shimron Hetmyer's cameo.
Rajasthan's skipper, Samson, lauded Parag's match-winning performance, recognising his potential to make significant contributions to Indian cricket in the future.
In response, the Delhi Capitals started well, with Mitchell Marsh and David Warner laying a solid foundation. However, Rajasthan's bowlers, led by Avesh Khan and supported by Yuzvendra Chahal and Nandre Burger, struck at crucial intervals, restricting Delhi's progress.
Despite a valiant effort by Tristan Stubbs towards the end, Delhi fell short of the target, handing the Rajasthan Royals a well-deserved victory. Avesh Khan's tight final over sealed the win for Rajasthan, leaving Delhi skipper Pant disappointed but determined to learn from the experience.
