YouTube has unveiled a fresh avenue for creators to monetize their content, drawing parallels with TikTok’s revenue-generating model for short videos.
In a bid to cater to creators who specialize in short-form content akin to TikTok, YouTube is rolling out a new feature that offers earning opportunities.
This novel feature empowers creators to limit access to their videos exclusively to paying subscribers, providing an additional revenue stream.
Creators can leverage this option to offer exclusive content to their subscribers, enhancing engagement and incentivizing subscriptions.
With the ability to restrict both pre-posted and uploaded short videos, creators can curate specialized content for their subscriber base.
The introduction of this feature echoes TikTok's Series feature, which debuted in March 2023. This functionality enables qualified users to compile their videos into an album, accessible to viewers for a fee.
Dubbed as a "series album," creators have autonomy over the pricing, ranging from $1 to $190 per album view. Notably, TikTok does not claim a share of the revenue generated from series albums, but users must pay a fee to participate in the series program.
YouTube's announcement comes amidst staggering viewership statistics, with its shorts videos amassing a staggering 70 billion views daily. Moreover, a quarter of channels within YouTube's partner program are capitalizing on the monetization potential of shorts.
This move underscores YouTube's commitment to fostering a vibrant creator ecosystem and capitalizing on the surging popularity of short-form video content.
