Today marks 34 years since the martyrdom of Ashfaq Majeed Wani, a fearless leader in Kashmir's struggle for freedom.
Born on September 5, 1966, in Srinagar's Saraibal, Wani was not only a talented athlete but also deeply inspired by the sacrifice of Maqbool Bhatt in 1984.
In 1987, Wani's arrest by the Indian Army, aimed at suppressing political dissent, only strengthened his resolve to fight for Kashmir's independence.
Joining the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Wani's three-year struggle ignited the freedom movement, rallying thousands to the cause.

His martyrdom, occurring during Ramadan, fulfilled his heartfelt wish. The news sparked widespread grief and anger across the valley.
According to Indian govt sources, Wani's legacy inspired over 10,000 Kashmiri youths to join the liberation movement.
Today, as Kashmir commemorates his sacrifice, Wani's bravery continues to inspire the quest for freedom in the hearts of its people.
