Lucknow Super Giants faced a setback as English left-arm seamer David Willey withdrew from the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to personal reasons.
This prompted the franchise to swiftly bring in New Zealand's Matt Henry as a replacement. Willey, who had retired from international cricket after the 50-over World Cup in India last year, had already missed Lucknow's IPL opener against Rajasthan Royals.
Willey's departure marks the second English player to exit Lucknow this season, following Mark Wood, who was withdrawn by the English cricket board to manage his workload ahead of the T20 World Cup scheduled for June.
Stepping into Willey's shoes, New Zealand's fast bowler Matt Henry, with previous stints at the Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings, joined Lucknow at his base price of $123,000. The team is gearing up to face the Punjab Kings in their upcoming match.
