Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has decided to take environmentally friendly measures on the occasion of 'Earth Day' 2024 to be observed on April 22 by observing it at the division and district levels across Punjab with the slogan "No to Plastic" campaign.
Maryam Nawaz has approved the use of plastic bags will be banned across Punjab from June 5.

Senior Minister Punjab Maryam Aurangzeb chaired a meeting and instructed to ensure a total ban on the production, distribution and use of polythene bags.
Maryam Aurangzeb said that burning plastic bags causes serious damage to the environment and respiratory and other deadly diseases.
‘No to plastic’ messages will be released on Earth Day — a special campaign will be launched on national and social media.
People are suffering from lung cancer by burning plastic, and smog is increasing.
People should use clothes and paper bags and all people including shopkeepers, shopping malls, restaurants, ovens should support the campaign of not using plastic bags contributing to improving human health and eliminating smog.
“Do not use plastic bags and other plastic items, especially food and drink utensils in your homes,” the Senior Minister of Punjab appealed to the people. She requested media to play a role in highlighting this campaign.
“June 5 is the deadline, after which there will be a complete ban on the use of plastic bags,” Maryam Aurangzeb said.
Heads of institutions and deputy commissioners will ensure the ban on the use of plastic bags in their districts.
She said special lectures and training workshops will be held in students and educational institutions, the harm caused by plastic to human health will be made aware.
