The implementation of a free food program in federal government educational institutions has commenced, aiming to provide nutritious mid-day meals to students.
Education Secretary Mohiuddin Wani announced the initiative, emphasizing the government's commitment to ensuring access to essential resources for students across the country.
In the first phase of the program, he said, 40 primary schools will receive mid-day meals from this week. Specifically, 20 schools in the Tarnol and Nilore sectors are set to benefit from the free meal scheme from this week.
Secretary Wani highlighted the collaborative effort between the government and a trust to support the provision of meals to school children. He reiterated the importance of ensuring that every child has access to adequate nutrition to support their learning and development.
Furthermore, Secretary Wani outlined plans for the expansion of the program, revealing that within the next two months, free meals will be introduced in all primary schools across Islamabad. This expansion aims to reach a broader demographic of students and address food insecurity among school-going children.
