Following the court orders, the Islamabad Police on Tuesday evening shifted former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan to Adiala prison from Attock Jail.
A heavy contingent of Islamabad Police arrived at Attock Jail, backed by a convoy of 13 vehicles, including police vans, and an ambulance with medical staff and doctors.
The decision to transfer Imran Khan was made in the wake of ongoing legal proceedings related to the cipher case being heard in Attock Jail.
The move comes after a delay in the execution of the court order, which was issued yesterday by Chief Justice Aamir Farooq.
Imran says he is fine
On Monday, Imran Khan refused to be shifted to Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi from Attock Jail.
As per sources, Imran Khan told his lawyer during a court hearing of the cipher case that he did not want to go to Adiala Jail.
He is reported to have directed his lawyer Salman Safdar to withdraw their application regarding shifting the PTI chief to Adiala. He told his lawyer that he was fine in Attock and did not want to be shifted.
During the hearing, Salman Safdar informed his client about the Islamabad High Court’s order to shift him to Adiala Jail, as all under-trial prisoners of Punjab are kept there.
Capital police custody
Meanwhile, a substantial contingent of Islamabad Police earlier day, accompanied by an armored vehicle and an ambulance, arrived at Attock Jail to carry out the transfer.
The PTI chief was promptly handed over to the custody of the capital police, marking the beginning of his journey to Adiala Jail.
Notably, Mr Khan's legal counsel, Sher Afzal Marwat, had confirmed the transfer on social media, stating that the former Prime Minister would be accommodated in a room with an attached bath and other facilities, in accordance with jail regulations for high-profile individuals.
The former premier legal team had filed an application in court to oppose his detention in Attock Jail instead of Adiala Jail, leading to the eventual transfer.
Imran Khan's legal troubles began on August 5 when he was arrested at his residence in Zaman Park, Lahore, following a conviction in the Tosha Khana case.
The transfer to Adiala Jail signifies a continuation of the legal proceedings against the PTI Chairman.
