The country is commemorating the 26th anniversary of Youm-e-Takbeer today with great national zeal and fervour in remembrance of the successful nuclear tests carried out on this day in 1998 that rendered the nation's defence unbeatable.
On this day, Pakistan became the first Muslim state and the seventh nuclear-armed country in the world to have a nuclear arsenal for defence and peaceful deterrence.
The prime minister has declared the day a public holiday in an effort to fortify Pakistan's defences.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif
In his message on the day. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the day "encapsulates the narrative of our nation's arduous yet remarkable path towards establishing a credible minimum deterrence" more than just a mere commemoration.
He recalled that on this day in 1998, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif "demonstrated bold leadership by rejecting nerve-wracking pressures and inducements" to make Pakistan a nuclear-armed nation. He also paid tribute to former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, whom he called the founder of Pakistan’s nuclear programme, for his strategic foresight and unwavering commitment to the cause.

"This significant day symbolizes the collective effort of all facets of national power, overcoming what seemed like an insurmountable challenge and achieving a milestone in our country's defence capabilities. Youm-e-Takbir Mubarak!" the PM wrote on his X account.
He also said the day was a reminder of the unity that made national defence invincible, emphasizing the nation's unwavering commitment to its defense capabilities. "We will not accept external pressure on national defense, nor will any compromise be made," he stressed, adding that the day was a reminder to unite under the national flag and a renewal of the pledge to thwart the evil intentions of the enemy.
Prime Minister Sharif also lauded the Pakistan Army for its role in making the country's defense invincible. "On this day, Pakistan Army made national defense invincible," he said, highlighting the collective effort that contributed to the nation's security.

Moreover, the chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and the armed forces also felicitated the nation on this day.
A statement from Inter-Services Public Relations said the occasion commemorated the success of Pakistan's nuclear tests when the “historic achievement” of 1998 established credible minimum deterrence.
It further said that Pakistan's nuclear explosions restored the balance of power in the region, and on behalf of the forces and the nation paid tribute to those who contributed to this feat.
“Kudos to all these people for their unwavering dedication and selfless sacrifices. This feat was achieved despite tremendous odds,” the ISPR statement said.
It said that the scientists, engineers and other authorities concerned who worked on the project were rightly commendable.
“The protection of national sovereignty and security will be ensured at any cost,” the ISPR vowed.

She further said that Youm-e-Takbeer was a day of pride not only for the Pakistani nation, but also for the Muslim world, adding that the nuclear program was a symbol of Pakistan's strong defense.
"The Pakistani nation is still grateful for the bold decisions of Nawaz Sharif. Now it is our mission to make it economically invincible," Maryam exclaimed, adding that today, "we have to reiterate the commitment of unity, solidarity, hard work, and tolerance".
