The residents of Karachi are in for a scorching heat wave, with temperatures expected to reach a sizzling high of 42-44 degrees Celsius over the next three days, starting from today.
According to the Meteorological Department, the city's inhabitants will have to endure hot and dry air during the day, with the mercury expected to touch 42 degrees Celsius today.
While social media has been abuzz with claims of the temperature already crossing 50 degrees Celsius, the Met Department has clarified that the maximum temperature recorded so far is 42 degrees Celsius.
However, the heat index, which takes into account the humidity, makes it feel like a scorching 45 degrees Celsius.
The sea breeze, which usually provides some respite from the heat, is expected to be suspended, exacerbating the situation. The minimum temperature recorded this morning was 30 degrees Celsius, while the current temperature stands at 33 degrees Celsius.
The Met Department has warned of a heat wave from today until June 1, advising citizens to take necessary precautions to stay safe.
With humidity levels at 70 percent, the city's residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activities during the day, and seek shade or air-conditioned spaces to escape the sweltering heat.
