Amidst swirling controversy surrounding the potential ban of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, Adviser to Prime Minister and Federal Minister Rana Sanaullah clarified that the issue is not currently on the cabinet’s agenda.
Speaking on Samaa TV program ‘Mere Swaal’, he said that the decisions regarding party bans are made based on thorough consideration of available evidence and legal grounds.
“The issue of banning PTI is currently not under consideration in the cabinet,” stated Sanaullah, highlighting the importance of handling such matters in accordance with legal protocols and the principles of democracy.
The advisor also stressed the need for dialogue and negotiation in resolving political disputes, emphasizing that the PTI founder’s position should be understood and addressed with careful consideration.
“In a parliamentary democratic system, problems are solved through negotiations,” affirmed the minister, suggesting that dialogue remains crucial in addressing any grievances or concerns.
However, amidst speculations of potential legal action, including filing a reference, Rana Sanaullah cautioned that such decisions are not taken lightly and require careful deliberation. “Filing a reference is not such an easy or trivial matter,” he remarked, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
Regarding the judiciary, Sanaullah acknowledged that while some members may have previously supported PTI, the judiciary remains an institution with many honorable individuals. “Some people in the judiciary have been supporting it before, but the judiciary is an institution with very good people in it. If it is decided to file a reference, it can be filed,” he remarked.
Regarding recent tweets attributed to the PTI founder, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader urged for a nuanced understanding, noting that they reflect the founder’s personal thoughts and beliefs. “The tweet was done by the will of the founder of PTI,” he reiterated, suggesting that individual expressions should be considered within their context.
While acknowledging differing viewpoints within the judiciary, Rana Sanaullah expressed confidence in the institution’s integrity and underscored the need for fair and impartial proceedings. “Some people in the judiciary have been supporting it before,” he acknowledged, recognising the diversity of opinions within the legal system.
The adviser further stressed the importance of handling the situation with sensitivity and adherence to legal procedures. “The way out will be only by handling PTI founder according to his nature,” he concluded, urging for a measured approach to resolving the ongoing controversy.
He emphasized that since gaining popularity, Imran Khan has refused to engage in negotiations, which are essential for resolving issues in a parliamentary democratic system. "The stand of the PTI founder is sedition and mischief. Ever since he gained popularity, he has been refusing to negotiate. Problems are solved by negotiation in a parliamentary democratic system," Sanaullah asserted.
