Ahead of the general elections to be held in last week of January next year, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has published preliminary constituencies for national and provincial assemblies.
In an important development related to the upcoming general elections, the electoral watchdog has published the preliminary constituencies of the National and Provincial Assemblies.
Proposals and objections on constituencies can be filed from Thursday October 27, The Commission will review and address these objections from October 28 to November 26, ensuring a fair and transparent process.
Following which the final of constituencies will be published on November 30, providing clarity on the electoral landscape.
In order to file objections, one must be a registered voter in the respective constituency. Additionally, district maps can be obtained from the ECP on payment of necessary fee, whereas the objections by courier post and fax will not be entertained and the objections must be submitted in accordance with Rule 12 of the Election Act 2017.
It should be remembered that the Election Commission has already announced the general elections across the country in the last week of January 2024.
According to the ECP, no changes have been made in the national and provincial assembly seats, while constituencies have been made in proportion to the population.
The constituencies include 266 seats for the National Assembly and 297 seats for the Punjab Assembly. In addition, there are 130 seats for the Sindh Assembly, 51 for the Balochistan Assembly, and 115 for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
Notably, the first National Assembly constituency will be NA-1 Chitral, while the final one will be NA-266 Qila Abdullah and Chaman. Similarly, the first Punjab Assembly constituency will be PP-1 Attock, and the last one will be PP-297 Rajanpur. In Sindh, the first constituency is PS-1 Jacobabad, and the last is PS-130 Central Karachi. For Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, it begins with PK-1 Chitral and concludes with PK-115 Dera Ismail Khan. In Balochistan, the first constituency is PB-1 Shirani Wajub, and the last is PB-51 Chaman.
