Significant developments have emerged in the contempt of court case concerning Justice Babar Sattar of the Islamabad High Court, with the court taking proactive steps to question the leakage of personal data related to the judge and his family.
The high court directed its registrar to issue a letter to the chief legal officer of social media platform X through the Foreign Ministry. This letter, on the directive of the Islamabad High Court larger bench, requests X to cooperate with Pakistani investigative agencies by providing relevant information pertaining to the leak of Justice Babar Sattar's personal data.
Court sources indicate that X has been given an option to send its representative before the high court to assist in identifying the source of the data leak. "If X sends a representative, it will be commendable," the sources added.
The personal data of high court judge Justice Babar Sattar and his family has been leaked on X, the sources quoted the letter as saying.
Furthermore, the letter stresses the importance of "X" aiding Pakistani authorities in pinpointing the accounts responsible for disseminating the leaked information. It also includes details of the accounts identified by Pakistani investigative agencies thus far.
"X should assist in identifying the data leaker's account," the letter said, adding that even if it was an organized campaign, X should assist the government by providing it with links. The letter also points to X's assistance to countries like India and the UK.
