Meta’s popular messaging platform, WhatsApp, is gearing up to enhance user security with a forthcoming update, according to a report from WABetaInfo.
This new feature, still in development, aims to provide users with a comprehensive tool to bolster account protection through additional security measures.
The forthcoming security checkup screen is designed to streamline the process of reviewing and strengthening account security. Users will soon have the option to set up a passkey, which will allow them to log in using biometric data or a screen lock, adding an extra layer of protection against unauthorized access.
In addition, the update will introduce an option to link an email address to a WhatsApp account. This feature will facilitate account recovery in scenarios where users are unable to receive SMS verification codes. The checkup screen will also recommend enabling two-step verification, which provides enhanced security through a personalized six-digit code.
This new security checkup feature aims to consolidate all essential security options into a single, user-friendly interface. By bringing together various security settings in one place, the feature is expected to make it easier for users to engage with and manage their security preferences effectively.
As this feature is still under development, users can look forward to its availability in a future update, which is anticipated to further strengthen WhatsApp's commitment to safeguarding user accounts.
