The 76th martyrdom anniversary of Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed, the first recipient of Pakistan's highest military award Nishan-e-Haider, was observed today with reverence across the country. Quran recitations and special prayers were held in mosques nationwide.
Captain Sarwar, a valiant hero of the Pakistan Army, sacrificed his life defending the nation during the Kashmir conflict. On July 27, 1948, he led his company in an assault on a strong Indian position in the Uri Sector. Despite being wounded in the shoulder and facing heavy enemy fire, Captain Sarwar personally cut through barbed wire obstacles. His brave actions enabled his company to capture the position, but he was hit by machine gun fire and embraced martyrdom.
Religious scholars emphasized the importance of honoring martyrs like Captain Sarwar, stating that their sacrifices are a debt on the entire nation. They noted that the martyrs' blood is never wasted and that their sacrifices teach unity and solidarity.
The clerics remarked that the freedom we enjoy today is due to the sacrifices of heroes like Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed, who will always live in the hearts of the Pakistani people.
