Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar stressed on Sunday the need to thoroughly consider the dissenting notes issued by two Supreme Court judges in the reserved seats case.
Addressing newsmen in Lahore today, Tarar underscored the importance of closing all doors to floor crossing to prevent the establishment of retrogressive precedents. He stressed that eliminating all legal lacunas is essential to ensure the flourishing of democracy in Pakistan.
Tarar pointed out that in the case of reserved seats, relief was granted to a party that was not the petitioner, highlighting a significant concern over the legal implications of this decision
He noted that despite the passing of 15 days since the decision on specific seats, a detailed judgment has yet to be released. The Federal Minister remarked that the relief provided to the non-petitioner party raises questions about the fairness of the judicial process.
During a press conference in Faisalabad, Tarar stated that the dissenting notes by the Supreme Court judges contain crucial points that need to be addressed. He mentioned that the dissenting note relates to some articles of the constitution concerning reserved seats.
According to Tarar, the judges questioned why a detailed decision has not been issued despite the passage of 15 days. The two judges of the Supreme Court have raised significant points that require thorough answers.
Tarar emphasised that giving unilateral relief creates a wrong impression and that it is imperative to respond to the objections raised by the honorable judges.
He revealed that a review application had been filed regarding the decision on reserved seats, questioning the future implications of justifying this decision through floor crossing or changing party allegiance.
In a related context, Tarar mentioned that the chairman of the Sunni Ittehad Council participated in the election as an independent candidate. He highlighted that the constitution of the Sunni Ittehad Council stipulates that no minority member can become a member of the party.
