Bangladesh Student protesters after toppling the government of Sheikh Hasina Wajid vandalized Sheikh Mujeebur Rehman who considered as Banglabandhu — a friend of Bangalis.
Video showed the moment protesters in Bangladesh’s Dhaka climbed atop a large statue of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's father, and hammered the statue with an axe.
The footage was termed as ‘historic’ on social media websites as virtually Sheikh Mujeeb’s family rule has culminated in an ugly way in Dhaka.
Dhaka streets flooded with student protesters who called themselves razakars, right after the Sheikh Hasina fled the country reportedly on a military helicopter and cherished the moment with jubilant moments and intense sloganeering.
Sheikh Mujeeb ur Rheman was assassinated along with his family members on 15 August 1975 by the then military leadership in Dhaka Palace. At times, Sheikh Hasina and her sister were residing outside Bangladesh.
Sheikh Hasina assumed office from 1986 to 2001 and from 2009 to 2024.
