The Taliban government in Afghanistan has systematically excluded women from educational, social, and political life, effectively confining them to their homes. This has led to widespread concern about human rights violations against women in the country.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock strongly criticized the Taliban's treatment of women, stating that Afghanistan cannot be accepted into the international community due to these severe human rights violations. Baerbock highlighted that Afghan women are facing some of the most significant human rights abuses globally under Taliban rule.
Under Taliban control, women are not allowed to perform routine tasks and cannot travel without a male guardian. The regime has been suppressing protests, particularly those led by women, through violence and arrests.
Despite international criticism regarding the treatment of women, the Taliban government continues to resist compliance with international laws. Afghan civil society groups assert that international recognition of the Taliban government is unlikely until women's rights are restored.
