Security sources have responded sharply to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder Imran Khan’s recent demand for an open trial of former intelligence chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed.
The former prime minister's statement, made during an informal discussion with journalists in Adiala Jail, has drawn criticism from security circles.
In their reaction, security sources questioned Imran Khan's authority to dictate whether or not Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed's trial should be conducted openly. "Who is the founding chairman to tell whether there will be an open trial of Faiz Hameed or not?" the sources remarked.
The sources reassured that if Imran Khan himself is put on trial in connection with the ongoing case, there will be no secrecy involved. "If there is a trial of the founding chairman in this case, rest assured, it will be open," the security sources asserted.
Furthermore, the sources made a pointed comment on Imran Khan's recent actions and past conduct, suggesting that the PTI founder’s activities are well-known. "The whole world will then know what the founding chairman is doing and has been doing," they added.

Earlier, PTI Founder Imran Khan had demanded that an open trial be conducted for former intelligence chief Faiz Hameed.
In an informal discussion with journalists at Adiala Jail on Wednesday, the former prime minister made several provocative statements regarding the trial of General Faiz Hameed and the May 9 conspiracy case.
Imran, who is currently incarcerated, said: "I demand the army chief conduct the trial of General Faiz in an open court."
He argued that his case, as well as that of Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed was not solely an internal military issue, but a broader concern that affects Pakistan’s image. “I'm a former civilian prime minister, and my trial in a military court will tarnish the reputation of Pakistan,” he remarked.
Imran Khan further commented on the status of General Faiz Hameed post-retirement. “General Faiz was no longer a hero after his retirement; he became a zero,” he asserted, questioning what benefit there would be in maintaining ties with him. He also stated that if Faiz Hameed was the central figure in the May 9 conspiracy, he should be tried in an open court.
The former PM emphasized that the May 9 issue is a local matter rather than one of national security.
