Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President MNA Nawaz Sharif is reportedly planning a trip to London next month, according to party sources.
The sources said that Nawaz is expected to fly out of Pakistan on September 11, following the death anniversary of his late wife, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.
Sources within the party indicate that the former prime minister's trip is primarily for medical reasons. He is scheduled to undergo a comprehensive medical examination by his doctors in London. After his check-up, Nawaz Sharif is expected to spend time with his sons, who reside in the UK.
The trip is likely to last between two and three weeks, although party insiders suggest that Nawaz's departure to London may be influenced by the prevailing political conditions in Pakistan.
Nawaz Sharif, who returned to Pakistan on October 21 last year after a prolonged stay abroad, has remained a central figure in the country's political landscape. His potential departure to London comes at a critical time, with the nation's political environment in flux.
The former PM had returned to Pakistan on a chartered flight from Dubai, marking the end of his four-year self-imposed exile in London. His return was seen as an effort to galvanize support ahead of the parliamentary elections held in February.
Sharif had been considered a fugitive after failing to appear in court in 2019, which resulted in a 10-year prison sentence on corruption charges. At the time, the then-prime minister Imran Khan permitted Sharif to travel abroad for medical treatment following complaints of chest pains.
However, Sharif extended his stay in London, citing his doctors' advice against returning to Pakistan.
