The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) postponed on Wednesday the local body elections, which were slated to happen on September 29.
According to details, the electoral watchdog said: "The local body elections have been postponed following the approval of the Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government (Amendment) Bill, 2024.
The schedule of the local body elections in Islamabad has been postponed indefinitely. The parliament has approved the amendment bill in line with the Islamabad local body elections.
According to the amendment bill, Islamabad's union councils will increase the number of the wards.

Separately, last month, the ECP released updated list of 166 registered political parties as ECP recognised the elections of PML-N and Jamaat-e-Islami and updated the names of party presidents or chairmen of several political parties.
The ECP did not update the name of party chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The Election Commission has updated the name of Mian Nawaz Sharif as the President of the Muslim League- and the name of Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Naeem-ur-Rehman Khan as party chief has also been updated.
Mehmood Khan has been named as Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Parliamentarian while President Asif Ali Zardari is present as the President of the Pakistan People's Party Parliamentarian.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's name is included as Chairman of the of the Pakistan People's Party while Asfandiar Wali Khan's name still exists as the president of the Awami National Party.
