Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) chief, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, has made an urgent appeal to Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa, requesting the speedy resolution of appeals filed by various banks against the Federal Sharia Court's decision to eliminate the usurious system in Pakistan.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Maulana Fazlur Rehman emphasized the importance of quickly addressing these appeals.
The Federal Sharia Court, in a landmark ruling last year, mandated that the country’s financial system be made interest-free within five years. However, this decision has been met with resistance from several banks, which have filed appeals against the ruling.
The JUI chief stressed that the government must take concrete steps to establish an interest-free financial structure, aligning with Islamic principles.
He further praised Justice Qazi Faiz Isa for his previous rulings and expressed hope that a detailed judgment on this critical issue would be issued promptly, reassuring the Muslim population of Pakistan.
