The Pakistan International Airline (PIA) flight operation to Canada faced serious challenges of closure amid financial challenges.
Swiss Port Company has issued a letter to stop providing ground-handling services as national airline facing serious financial challenges.
“Due to non-payment of dues, PIA flight operation to Canada services are being stopped from 3rd October at 5 pm,” the statement reads.
The Swiss Port Company demanded $248,000 dollars should be paid immediately along with an advance of $100,000 dollars should also be paid for the provision of future services.
“PIA has been repeatedly reminded to pay dues,” it is reported, adding that, the ground-handling services are being discontinued as per the respective terms of the agreement between the two companies.
PIA spokesman Abdullah Hafeez earlier in the day said all payments have now been made to the Swiss port company and the flight operation was never suspended.
In the evening, he said that the payment was delayed due to the difference in schedules between the two countries.
Dues to the handling agency and the fuel company amounting to $200,000 have been paid, he said and confirmed that all PIA flights to Canada will operate normally.
