WhatsApp is introducing a novel feature in its latest beta update, promising to enhance user interaction on the platform.
The new functionality, part of beta version 2.24.20.3, is now available to select users through the Google Play Beta Program and is expected to roll out more broadly in the coming weeks.
This feature allows users to tag contacts in their status updates using a button located within the caption bar. Once a contact is tagged, they receive a private notification alerting them of the mention.
Notably, this notification is discreet, ensuring that only the tagged individual is aware of the mention, while other viewers remain unaware of the specific tags within the status update.
According to WABetaInfo, a trusted source for WhatsApp updates, the tagged contacts will always have access to the status update regardless of the sender's privacy settings.
This means that even if a user’s privacy settings exclude certain individuals from viewing their status updates, those who are tagged will still be able to see the relevant status update, ensuring they do not miss any crucial information.
Additionally, the feature includes a new reshare button that allows mentioned contacts to share the status update with their own audience. However, the original creator’s identity will remain confidential, and viewers of the reshared status will not have direct access to the creator.
The new feature aims to enhance user engagement by ensuring that important updates are communicated effectively while maintaining privacy and control over interactions. As the featur
