Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp has introduced a new feature aimed at enhancing its video calling and camera experience.
According to the reputable WhatsApp news tracker, WaBetaInfo, the platform's latest update brings augmented reality (AR) effects and filters that will allow users to personalise their video interactions with new visual tools.
In its latest beta release, WhatsApp has added a new feature that includes call effects and filters, enabling users to integrate AR effects directly into their camera interface.
One of the standout features is a newly introduced filter button that allows users to apply a variety of visual filters with a single tap, making images and videos more engaging.
Initially, these visual enhancements were limited to live video calls. However, with the latest update, users can now apply these effects while using the camera itself.
"With this new button, users can quickly toggle through a variety of filters, allowing for real-time adjustments before capturing their images and videos," explained WaBetaInfo.
Among the notable enhancements is a skin-smoothing filter that helps users reduce blemishes and even out skin tones for a polished look. Additionally, the platform has integrated a background-changing feature previously exclusive to video calls. Users can now replace their real-world surroundings with virtual scenes or blur the background entirely for a more professional appearance.
To improve video quality, WhatsApp has also introduced a lighting adjustment feature, including a low-light mode. This mode automatically brightens up images and videos taken in dimly lit environments, making them clearer.
Currently, the feature is available only to beta testers who have installed the latest update of WhatsApp Beta for Android. The feature is expected to roll out to a broader audience in the coming weeks.
