The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has directed two Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNAs — Anjum Aqeel and Khurram Nawaz — to submit amended applications today, seeking a change of the Islamabad Election Tribunal.
The directives came during a hearing where Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Shoaib Shaheen raised concerns about perceived injustices in the tribunal's handling of the case.
During the proceedings, Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja remarked that the Commission will continue to operate under the constitution and law, regardless of any criticism or abuses. "Even if someone abuses us, we will continue to work according to the constitution and law," he stated, addressing the allegations of bias.
Member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa posed a critical question to Shoaib Shaheen, asking whether those who receive favorable decisions view it as justice while others see it as injustice. In response, Shoaib Shaheen defended his position, citing past grievances.
The case of MNA Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has been adjourned until October 4, while the hearing for Anjum Aqeel and Khurram Nawaz has been postponed until 12:30 PM today. The Chief Election Commissioner also instructed that the three candidates submit separate applications with revised titles to proceed.
As tensions flared during the hearing, Shoaib Shaheen declared PTI as "strangers" in the process, a comment met with scrutiny by Member Balochistan, who questioned how they were strangers in the proceedings.
The Election Commission remains firm in its stance to follow the constitutional framework while urging all parties to adhere to proper legal protocols in their submissions.
