The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a statement highlighting the repeated delays caused by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the ongoing intra-party election case.
According to the ECP, PTI held its intra-party elections on March 3, 2024, but the process was marred by several flaws, prompting the commission to take notice and issue a formal notification to PTI on April 23, 2024.
The ECP revealed that since the first hearing on April 30, a total of six hearings have been conducted, with PTI requesting adjournments in five of them. In today's session, PTI once again requested more time, which the ECP said has significantly delayed the resolution of the case.
"The Election Commission has been continuously showing flexibility and has given PTI numerous opportunities to meet constitutional requirements," the statement declared. Despite these efforts, the ECP emphasized that all responsibility for the delays rests with PTI.
The ECP reiterated its commitment to resolving the matter through legal means and expressed frustration at the lack of progress due to PTI's repeated adjournment requests.
