In a move aimed at uplifting the underprivileged and fostering community solidarity, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched the "Dhee Rani Program."
This initiative, spearheaded by the Social Welfare Department, focuses on facilitating mass marriages for deserving couples across the province.
The first phase of mass marriages is scheduled for November 30, 2024, where 3,000 couples will be wed in a grand ceremony attended by the Punjab CM.
Eligibility criteria for applicants
The Dhee Rani Program is primarily designed for poor, orphaned, disabled girls, and the daughters of disabled individuals aged 18 to 40 years. Here are the key requirements to apply:

Residency proof: Applicants must prove their citizenship and residency in Punjab by providing a domicile certificate issued by NADRA.

Marriage status: Only unmarried women are eligible. Those already married or with completed marriage ceremonies are not allowed to apply.

Affidavit requirement: A signed affidavit confirming the applicant's unmarried status and willingness to participate in a mass marriage ceremony is mandatory.

Application submission: The application can be submitted by the bride herself, her father, mother, or legal guardian.
If the number of applications exceeds 3,000, the selection will be conducted via an electronic lottery system, ensuring a fair and transparent process. The lucky winners will receive notifications through SMS.
Application procedure
Applications for the Dhi Rani Program are being accepted until November 5, 2024. Interested individuals can apply through the official web portal at cmppunjab.com. The application requires the following details:
- Applicant's name
- Gender
- Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) number
- District and tehsil name
- Email address
- Contact number
In addition to online submissions, applications can also be submitted in person at the office of the Deputy Director of Social Welfare in the respective districts. For further inquiries, applicants can reach out to the helpline at 1312.
Benefits for newlyweds
The Dhee Rani Program is not only about facilitating marriages; it also aims to provide substantial support to newlyweds. Each couple selected under the program will receive:

Dowry Items: A comprehensive dowry package worth Rs 206,000, including essential household items such as a double bed with a mattress, dinner set, mirror, Holy Quran, and prayer place.

Financial Support: A greeting of Rs 100,000 will be directly transferred to the bride and groom’s bank account on their wedding day, providing them with a financial head start in their new life together.

Catering for Guests: The program will also ensure that food is provided for 20 guests, further easing the financial burden on families during this joyous occasion.
