Apple has rolled out a developer beta for iOS 18.2, packed with features that make this update stand out for both functionality and flexibility.
This release includes AI features like Gemmoji, Image Playground, and ChatGPT integration, but what has users excited is Apple’s new option to change default apps — now extending to messaging and calling apps.
Until now, Apple has restricted default app changes to email and browser applications, with these settings embedded within the Mail and Safari menus. But with iOS 18.2, Apple is introducing a new "Default Apps" menu under the Settings section that will allow users to select their preferred apps for email, messaging, calling, call filtering, and web browsing.
The menu, which Apple describes as “Manage your default apps for iPhone,” also allows users to manage app preferences for contactless payments, autofill for passwords and codes, and text input methods.
To access this feature, navigate to Settings > Apps > Default Apps in the new iOS 18.2.
This enhanced control will currently only be available to users on the developer beta version of iOS 18.2, with a wider release expected in the coming weeks.
As Apple continues to test the feature and gather feedback, everyday users will soon get a taste of this long-requested flexibility.
