A terrorist attack on a security checkpost in the Malikhel area of Bannu was successfully repelled by security forces, resulting in the death of six khawarij militants and the martyrdom of 12 army personnel, according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The militants attempted to breach the checkpost by ramming a car loaded with ammunition into the security wall.
The suicide blast caused a partial collapse of the protective wall, but the security forces swiftly responded, foiling the terrorists' efforts to infiltrate the post. Twelve army jawans tragically lost their lives in the blast.
The ISPR praised the courage of the jawans, who prevented further damage and casualties despite the intense attack.

Leaders condemn Bannu terrorist attack
President Asif Ali Zardari expressed his condolences to the families of the martyrs, acknowledging the immense sacrifice made by the soldiers of the Pakistan Army. He reiterated the nation’s resolve to completely eradicate terrorism, and prayed for the martyrs who gave their lives in defense of the motherland.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has strongly condemned the terrorist attack on a security check post in Bannu, which led to the martyrdom of 12 security personnel. Naqvi expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyrs, praising the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives to thwart the terrorists' attempt.
In a statement, Naqvi remarked, “The brave sons of this nation sacrificed their lives and foiled the heinous intentions of the terrorists. The soldiers of the Pakistan Army who laid down their lives for the peace of the country are the heroes of the nation. Their sacrifices will be remembered forever." He emphasized that the nation would always be indebted to the martyrs, acknowledging Pakistan's unparalleled sacrifices in the war against terrorism.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed grief over the martyrdom of the 12 security personnel, hailing their bravery and sacrifice in protecting the nation. He stressed that the war against terrorism would continue until the complete elimination of terrorist groups. Sharif vowed that the terrorists would pay a heavy price for their actions.
Similarly, Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan also paid tribute to the martyred soldiers, expressing his deep sorrow over the loss. He stated, “The entire nation shares the grief of the families of the martyrs. The brave Pakistan Army is fulfilling its promise to defend the country by sacrificing their lives.”
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif condemned the attack and honored the great sacrifice of the security forces. She extended her sympathy to the families of the fallen soldiers and reaffirmed that terrorists would not be allowed to hinder the country’s progress.
