Pakistan's food sector exports have reached $3.96 billion in the current fiscal year 2025, marking a 13.8% increase, according to official statistics.
Rice exports, a key contributor to the growth, increased by 14.50% to $1.87 billion in the first half of FY2025. Basmati rice exports surged by 30.62%, generating $433.82 million, while non-basmati rice exports rose by 13.47% to reach $1.44 billion.
The country has expanded its rice export markets to include new destinations such as Europe, the United Kingdom, and Bangladesh, diversifying its international trade portfolio.
Sugar exports witnessed a significant recovery, reaching 632,804 tons in the first half of FY2025, compared to 33,101 tons in the previous year. The meat sector recorded a 3.64% growth in exports during the same period.
Vegetable exports also showed positive momentum, with onion exports increasing by 1.71%. The growth in food exports aligns with the Special Investment Facilitation Council's (SIFC) priority to enhance agricultural sector performance and expand global market presence.
The Bureau of Statistics data indicates that these improvements in export performance stem from both government policies and SIFC initiatives aimed at strengthening the agricultural economy's sustainability.
The diversification of export markets and increased volumes across multiple food categories demonstrate the sector's expanding global footprint, contributing to Pakistan's overall export growth strategy.
