Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Wednesday while stressing the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to immediately announce general elections in the country said that the country cannot be run from London.
Addressing a rally on the anniversary of the Karsaaz tragedy in Karachi, he said that the elections and constitution were stopped for the return of one person which proved that Pakistan cannot be run from London and public presence is essential.
The former foreign minister without mentioning the name of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif mockingly said that the reception with state resources will also be successful but repeated delays in elections won’t give respect to the vote.
He said that the ECP should immediately announce date for polling, and also criticized the politics of selection, asserting that it has undermined democracy. He also accused those who criticize Asif Zardari of attempting to claim credit for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) today.
The PPP chairman emphasized the need to acknowledge that the country is not progressing in the right direction. Regardless of who is to blame, he called for moving forward and conducting new elections. He also urged the ECP to promptly announce a date for the elections.
It should be noted that PML-N supremo and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is returning to Pakistan on October 21 after 4 years.
