Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has assured retailers that no additional tax burden will be imposed on those already included in the tax net, while efforts are being made on a priority basis to bring non-taxpaying businesses under taxation.
A delegation of the Pakistan Retail Business Council met with the prime minister to discuss various issues related to the retail sector. During the meeting, PM Shehbaz emphasized that the government is taking strict measures to curb smuggling and ensure economic stability through reforms, including the digitization of financial transactions.
The prime minister directed the formation of a committee to resolve the concerns of retailers and reiterated the government's commitment to creating a cashless economy by implementing reforms within the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). He also highlighted the track-and-trace system as a significant step towards ensuring transparency in the economy.
The retailers appreciated the prime minister and his team for their efforts in stabilizing the economy. They noted that a decline in inflation and interest rates had positively impacted production and consumption in the country. They also expressed optimism that these measures would further bring down inflation and generate new employment opportunities as industries continue to expand.
PM Shehbaz also spoke about the importance of judicial reforms, congratulating the law minister and his team for introducing a modern system to expedite legal proceedings. He mentioned that he had recently met Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi and urged him to ensure the speedy resolution of pending tax cases on merit.
The prime minister stressed that Pakistan is a country rich in resources and has some of the best scientists, bankers, and bureaucrats, emphasizing the need for better utilization of these human and natural assets.
