Several police personnel have been arrested for allegedly arranging a feast for a death row convict at Services Hospital, Lahore.
The officials from the Judicial Wing had transported the convict from Kot Lakhpat Jail to the hospital, where they organised an unauthorised gathering with his family and provided special treatment.
According to sources, the convict’s family was called to the hospital ward, and lavish food was arranged for him, creating a relaxed and festive atmosphere. The incident came to light last week, prompting an internal inquiry. Following a thorough investigation, an FIR was registered against the involved officials on Saturday.
The police report states that the personnel not only violated security protocols but also accepted a bribe in exchange for providing special treatment to the convict. The accused convict, currently serving a 25-year sentence in a murder case, was reportedly treated as an honoured guest rather than a prisoner.
Upon receiving information, higher authorities took immediate action and detained the officials involved. Further investigations are underway to determine the extent of the misconduct and any other possible accomplices within the department.
Authorities have vowed strict action against those responsible, emphasizing that such violations undermine the justice system and compromise prison regulations.
The Punjab police have assured that those involved will be held accountable, and measures are being taken to prevent such breaches in the future.
