A senior officer of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a guest house in Islamabad’s G6 sector.
Waqas Ahmed, a Grade 19 officer, who was serving as additional director at NAB’s Head Office, was involved in investigating several high-profile corruption cases.
According to Islamabad police, Waqas Ahmed’s body was discovered inside a locked room, with no visible signs of violence. The circumstances of his death remain unclear, and the cause of death will only be determined after a post-mortem examination.
Investigations and high-profile cases
Waqas Ahmed, a resident of Lahore, had been associated with some of Pakistan’s biggest corruption investigations. He played a key role in probing the OGRA scandal and the Haris Steel Mills case. He was also part of the NAB team that arrested Tauqir Sadiq, the former chairman of OGRA, in a multi-billion rupee fraud case.
Family claims mental stress
While initial findings suggest no physical harm, Ahmed’s family told police that he had been suffering from severe mental stress in recent days. However, whether his death was a suicide or a possible murder remains unknown.
Law enforcement agencies have launched a thorough investigation into the mysterious death, with forensic experts examining the scene. Authorities are also reviewing CCTV footage and questioning individuals who may have been in contact with the officer before his death.
