Eidul Fitr 2025 is expected to bring a long-awaited week-long holiday in Pakistan, with many anticipating a festive break from March 29 to April 6, 2025.
Ramadan, a sacred month of fasting, prayer, self-reflection, and charity, culminates in Eidul Fitr, one of the most significant Islamic festivals, celebrated on the first day of Shawwal. The exact date of Eid is determined by the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon, following a centuries-old Islamic tradition.
The Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council has predicted that Eidul Fitr in 2025 will likely occur on March 31. Experts from the Ruet committee have stated that the crescent moon is expected to be visible across most regions of Pakistan on the evening of March 30, with the moon being over 26 hours old by then, meeting the necessary criteria for visibility.
This year, Pakistanis are hopeful for an extended holiday period. The first three days of Eid are expected to fall from Monday to Wednesday, aligning with the preceding weekend. Speculation is rising that the government may announce a five-day official holiday from March 29 to April 2.
If additional leave is granted on Thursday and Friday, the break could extend to nine days, from March 29 to April 6. However, the final schedule will depend on the official moon sighting announcement.
