The Foreign Office on Tuesday addressed media reports regarding the denial of entry to a senior Pakistani diplomat in the United States, stating that the matter is under investigation.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan - in a statement - clarified that Ambassador KK Ahsan Wagan, who currently serves as Pakistan’s envoy to Turkmenistan, was visiting the US in a private capacity.
“The Foreign Ministry is investigating the issue,” the spokesperson said, without elaborating on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to diplomatic sources, Wagan was stopped by US immigration officials upon arrival at Los Angeles International Airport and was subsequently deported.
Reports suggest that the decision may be linked to administrative complaints from his previous diplomatic assignment in the US, though no official explanation has been provided by American authorities.
Wagan, who previously held diplomatic positions in Washington and Muscat, was posted to Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, six months ago.
While speculation surrounds the reasons behind the move, the Foreign Office has refrained from making any definitive comments. “We are looking into the details and will provide further information as necessary,” the spokesperson added.
