The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a warning for an intense heatwave affecting various regions of the country, particularly Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan.
Starting today, these areas are expected to experience temperatures that will be significantly higher than usual, with daytime temperatures predicted to rise by 6 to 8 degrees Celsius above the normal levels.
The department further indicated that from April 18 onwards, temperatures in Islamabad, central and upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to climb by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius.
Along with the rise in temperatures, gusty winds are also likely to occur, exacerbating the already sweltering conditions.
Yesterday, Nawabshah, Hyderabad, and Dadu recorded the highest temperatures in the country, reaching 43°C. Karachi, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ismail Khan followed closely, recording 39°C and 37°C, respectively.
Lahore and Peshawar both experienced 35°C, while Islamabad and Quetta stood at 33°C. The hot spell is expected to continue throughout the week, particularly in the areas most affected by the heatwave.
Experts have urged citizens in the affected areas to take precautions against heat-related illnesses, such as staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours.
The Meteorological Department has also advised the general public to be vigilant of the changing weather patterns in the coming days and to take necessary steps for their safety.
