Newcomer Nameer Khan's intense portrayal of Ammar Bakhtiyar in the hit drama Qarz e Jaan has left a lasting impact.
Loved and loathed in equal measure, Ammar’s character became one of the most talked-about elements of the show — and Nameer's powerful performance is being hailed as a standout.
Following the drama's emotional finale, Nameer went live on YouTube to interact with fans and shared how he prepared for one of the most difficult roles of his career so far.
One of the most striking aspects of Ammar’s character was his constant intoxication. Making this look authentic wasn’t easy, but Nameer revealed that he put in considerable research and effort. He discovered that intoxicated individuals tend to blink less and carry themselves differently — but instead of overdoing it, he chose a more nuanced approach.
"I thought an intoxicated person would try to act normal. That’s exactly what Ammar did. He didn’t want others to know he was high."
Nameer admitted he read online sources to understand body language and behavior while under the influence. Interestingly, he is allergic to cigarette smoke in real life, and his mother was initially concerned he might pick up smoking — but he reassured fans that he’s completely fine.
In real life, Nameer describes himself as calm and composed—a stark contrast to Ammar’s volatile personality. To prepare for chaotic scenes, he developed a technique to physically and mentally gear up, such as shaking his arms to boost his adrenaline and enter the intense headspace Ammar required.
"I had to increase my blood pressure, get into that disturbed zone — only then could I act like Ammar."
His dedication clearly paid off, with viewers now recognizing him as a rising star to watch.
