Indian media on Thursday claimed that a Border Security Force (BSF) personnel was detained by Pakistan Rangers after ‘inadvertently crossing’ the international border in Punjab’s Ferozepur sector, officials confirmed on Thursday.
Constable PK Singh, attached to the 182nd Battalion, was reportedly accompanying a group of farmers near the border when he moved ahead to rest under a shaded area and unintentionally entered Pakistani territory. He was in full uniform and carrying his service rifle at the time of his detention.
Times of India live blog citing officials from both sides have initiated contact, and flag meetings are being held to facilitate his early release, sources said.
“The matter is being taken up with Pakistani counterparts at all levels to ensure the jawan's safe and prompt return,” a BSF spokesperson added.
