Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan was granted permission to talk to his sons on WhatsApp by a special court hearing cipher case on Friday.
Imran Khan is being tried under the Official Secrets Act of 1923, which accuses him of misusing a diplomatic cipher. He is currently being held in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, having previously been in Attock Jail after being convicted on August 5 in the Toshakhana (gift repository) case.
The former premier was first arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on May 9 on suspicion of corruption related to the Al-Qadir Trust. He maintains that the cases against him are false and pledges to clear his name.
The special court's judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain heard Imran Khan's plea for permission to communicate with his sons on WhatsApp every Saturday.
Imran Khan had filed an application through his lawyer Shiraz Ahmed Ranjha mentioning his WhatsApp conversation with his sons on October 21. This was arranged by the jail superintendent in compliance with the court's initial order.
